SENCO Training Course – Level 5 (Special Educational Needs Coordination)

In this foundational module, participants will understand the core concept of the SENCo roles and responsibilities. They will also learn the core principles of SENCo and how SENCo and other staff assist learners with SEN in educational settings.

In this module, participants will gain insight into the legal framework that underpins the role of an SEN coordinator. They will explore the children and families act 2014, the SEND code of practice related to SEN and disabled children, the united nations convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) 1989 and more.

In this module, participants will learn about the legislations and principles guiding the role of a SENCo. They will be familiarised with the children and families act 2014, the special educational needs and disability regulations 2014, the special educational needs (personal budgets) regulations 2014, equality act 2010 in detail.

In this module, participants will explore various types of special educational needs and the code of practice or the guideline that shapes the identification, assessment, and support of students with special needs.

In this module, participants will learn about the role of a SEN coordinator in implementing and enforcing SEN policies within educational institutions. They will understand how to properly arrange admission for all students, how to promote inclusive learning, how to assist the class teacher in providing quality teaching and more.

In this module, participants will learn the critical process of identifying and addressing the special educational needs of children. They will recognise the key steps of identifying SEN according to the various types and after identification, they will learn how to tailor the support based on the specific needs of each student.

In this module, participants will learn about EHCP and the roles of a SEN coordinator in monitoring and managing the educational, health and care needs of SEN children. They will learn how to assess and plan the EHCP needs of the students and how to assist the class teachers and other staff in ensuring the needs are fulfilled.

In this module, participants will learn how to work collaboratively with the children with SEN, their parents, caregivers and others. They will learn how to assess the learning needs of the children and how to arrange support with the class teacher, parents and others, how to arrange meetings with parents, teachers and other related individuals and more.

In this module, participants will gain insight into the crucial role of collaborating with the senior leadership team and colleagues of the educational institution to support and implement SEN policies within the institution.

In this module, participants will learn about the common problems related to communication and interaction faced by SEN children. They will learn about various disorders such as speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), speech sound difficulty, language disorders, voice disorder, fluency disorder, and many other difficulties in social communication in detail.

In this module, participants will learn about the cognition and learning difficulties of children. They will explore various disorders related to learning difficulties such as disorders of speaking & listening, and specific learning disabilities along with assessment and diagnosis procedures for these difficulties.

In this module, participants will learn about various behavioural, emotional and social challenges faced by children with special educational needs. They will also learn about various complications with children and what are the strategies and approaches that can be taken to solve such complications and much more from this module.

In this module, participants will understand the complications of children having sensory and physical needs. They will also learn about the phases of education and the strategies and approaches to support in various phases.

In this module, participants will understand the advice, information and support about matters concerning disabilities and social and health care that parents and caregivers may require. They will understand who needs information, advice and support, the scope of information, advice & support and more from this module.

In this module, participants will understand how the integration of educational and training provisions with health and social care provisions promotes the well-being and quality of special educational provision for children or young people with special educational needs in its area.

In this module, participants will understand the benefits of early identification of the needs and disabilities of children. They will also learn how providing effective early-year provisions may improve SEN children’s long-term outcomes.

In this module, participants will learn about the early years Foundation stage of children and their learning and development requirements and welfare needs and at this stage. They will learn about the early learning goals, the assessment procedures and the strategies for supporting sen children at the early stage.

In this module, participants will understand the role of an SEN coordinator in promoting the learning development of children in their early years. They will understand the early years observation for SEN, the provisions for early years, assessment according to age group and more.

In this module, participants will understand the multifaceted role of a SENCo within the school environment. Here, participants will understand the key stages of primary and secondary education in the UK, and the pivotal role of SENCo in the schools including policy development, identifying and meeting SEN, supporting colleagues and more.

In this module, participants will learn about the local offers and the role of a SENCo in coordinating with the local offers and other specialists to benefit students with special educational needs.

In this module, participants will learn how to promote equality, diversity and inclusion in their area. They will understand the importance of ensuring inclusion and equality as well as the statutory duties of education settings.

In this module, participants will learn about identifying SEN and how to support children with SEN in further education. They will also learn about various study programmes that may encompass the further education systems.

In this module participants will understand how to support children and young people with SEN or disabilities to prepare them for successful adult life and achieve employment, independent living, good health and active roles in community participation.

In this module, participants will learn about the educational, health and care (EHC) needs assessment for SEN children and young people to meet their needs and secure the best possible outcomes. They will also learn about the EHC plans and how to successfully carry out the plans.

In this module, participants will learn about situations of specific circumstances that SEN children in care, care leavers, hospitalised children or young offenders may experience and what are the required support to meet their needs.

In this module, participants will learn about the disagreement resolution services and mediation arrangements to the parents and young people to resolve the disputes. They will also learn how to appeal to the tribunal instead of using disagreement resolution services or mediation arrangements.

In this module, participants will understand what inclusive practice is and how as SENCo they can develop and promote inclusive practice and a positive environment within the educational setting.

In this module, participants will dive into the process of collaborative teamwork with colleagues and other professionals. Here they will explore strategies for working harmoniously with fellow colleagues and other related professionals to ensure appropriate support and provisions for pupils with SEN or other disabilities.
